Resin washing and curing: a safer workflow

A newly printed part still carries uncured resin. Set up a ventilated area and read the specific formulation’s safety data sheet before opening the vat or removing supports. Post-processing is part of the time and cost of every resin print.

Prepare the area

Have the protection specified by the safety data sheet, a spill tray, compatible containers and a place for draining. NIOSH advises ventilation controls and appropriate protection in 3D printing; adapt the process to the product.

Wash and cure to the maker’s instructions

Remove the part without direct contact with liquid resin. Use the washing agent specified for that resin rather than assuming all formulas are alike. After washing, let the part dry as instructed and apply the UV time for the material and thickness.

Handle waste

Do not pour uncured resin or contaminated liquid down a drain. Follow the safety data sheet and local disposal rules. Compare the capacity of a UV station with your actual part size.
